Microsoft has set a date for the first of their big Christmas exclusives, as the closed beta prepares for a mid-April start.
Xbox One exclusive Gears Of War 4 will be released on October 11 in the UK, and worldwide. Although Microsoft has been bringing some Xbox games to PC lately, such as the recent Quantum Break, there’s not yet any sign that the same will happen to Gears Of War 4.
This will be the first entry in the series since 2013 spin-off Gears Of War: Judgment, and the first since Microsoft bought the franchise from series creators Epic Games.
We were able to play the multiplayer mode recently, and will be reporting back on it next week. Relatively little has been seen of the campaign mode so far though, beyond its E3 2015 unveiling.
You’ll soon get a chance to try the multiplayer as well, with a closed beta set to start on April 18 for anyone who’s played Gears Of War: Ultimate Edition. Everyone else will be able to join in from April 25.
The October launch makes Gears Of War 4 the first major Christmas release to get a confirmed date, although Final Fantasy XV is a week or so earlier on September 30.
It’s not certain what Microsoft’s other major releases are this year, but it potentially includes Rare’s Sea Of Thieves, Crackdown 3, Halo Wars 2, and ReCore. But until they get a specific date all are subject to delay.
Also unknown is what Sony will have in terms of format exclusives, although they at least have more potential candidates than either of the previous two years.
MediaMolecule’s Dreams, Detroit: Become Human, Gran Turismo Sport, Gravity Rush 2, and Horizon: Zero Dawn are all possibilities. And if you’re feeling particularly optimistic so too is The Last Guardian.
