Feminist Frequency's next video series hits crowdfunding goal

The crowdfunding campaign for Feminist Frequency's upcoming video project, Ordinary Women, has met its goal of $200,000. The series hit that figure, which covers post-production, during its six-hour livestream counting down to the end of the funding period today.

Members of the nonprofit organization, including media critics Anita Sarkeesian and Carolyn Petit, were joined by game developers, fellow critics and others as they played games — from Super Mario Maker to a variety of titles on HTC Vive — at Double Fine Productions. The stream kicked off this morning at 6 a.m. PT and ran until just after noon PT, when the goal had been met.

The project raised $200,000 just before noon; at the stream's end, the tally was $207,058. After crossing the $200,000 line, Feminist Frequency announced its first stretch goal for the project: Hitting $210,000 will enable the organization to produce academic resources for using Ordinary Women in the classroom.

Campaign donations go toward funding post-production on Ordinary Women, the first episode of which premieres this fall. There are four episodes planned thus far, each one dedicated to a notable woman throughout history. Production will run concurrently with Tropes vs. Women in Video Games, Feminist Frequency's current project, which will conclude later this year.
